The successful candidate will work on HMI/GUI development for robotic applications, including 3D Mixed Reality environment with Virtual Reality headset. The work will include software development in Unity3D game engine, installation and testing of system components, participation in field trials, and preparation of research papers, reports and documentation (UML diagrams). The final application will integrate multiple robotic platforms (subsea, surface and aerial) into unique system.

The Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems, Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering, UL, has 8 funded PhD positions. Candidates will be funded for up to 4 years at SFI PhD scholarship rates: €18,500 (€1,540 per month) tax free stipend + €5,500 fees, total value €24k per year.

This role is to provide leadership and co-supervision of a growing team of PhD researchers in the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS) and Confirm, The Smart Manufacturing Research Centre. The candidate will perform independent research while co-supervising and mentoring PhD students. A fundamental part of this work will be to develop Collaborative Robotics which will have integrated robot manipulators and will be capable of being integrated to and managed by the production MES to facilitate a flexible manufacturing environment.
