John received an NCEA Diploma in Computer Engineering in 1988 from N.I.H.E Limerick and 1ST Honours Degree in Electronic Engineering and PhD from the university of Limerick in 2003 and 2011, respectively. During his PHD he was involved in the detection of exhaust gases from motor vehicles using optical fibres, as a member of the Optical Fibre Sensors Research Centre.
John is currently working as a Lecturer and Senior Technical Officer at the University of Limerick, where he teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of Electronic Engineering. He is still part of the Optical Fibre Sensors Research Centre and the Mobile and Marine Robotics Research Centre. He has published at numerous IEEE Conferences and journals.
John also has a background in the automotive area with a qualification in Automotive Engineering from LIT in 2007. His research interests in this area include diagnostics for vehicles and vehicle sensors.
